Todd Monken names Nick Mullens as starting QB

Sometimes when things are going south for a football team the famous lyric from Sam Cooke may pop into your head.

"Change gon' come."

That change came today as head coach Todd Monken officially made the switch to freshman quarterback Nick Mullens.

The 6'1", 185 lbs. signal caller out of Hoover, Alabama, split time with Allan Bridgford during the 55-14 loss to ECU, but finished out the 4th quarter.

He went 9 of 17 for 97 yards and two scores, but it wasn't all sunshine and daisies as he did throw an interception.

Even with that turnover, Monken feels that the offense needs a boost and Mullens can provide that.

"What Nick showed us Saturday was the ability to create when things break down."

"The bottom line is we need a spark. We need something."

The Golden Eagles are 120th out of 123 teams in the FBS in scoring offense.

Southern Miss hosts North Texas this Saturday at home. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
