HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Cancer patients, survivors, family members, and caregivers were on hand at the Forrest General Hospital Cancer Center Friday for the annual Cancer Survivors Picnic.
The picnic is in it's ninth year and is held to celebrate survivors of cancer and offer fellowship and support for those still attempting to overcome it.
The event each year also allows survivors to bond with each other and share the experiences they went through when battling the disease.
Organizers say attendance at the picnic continues to grow each year.
"Cancer is very scary and most people who come to us think they are going to die," said Mike Chang, Forrest General Radiation Oncologist. "But not all patients die, so this picnic reaffirms that cancer is curable."
Chang says the picnic reaffirms their commitment to their patients at the cancer center which serves 17 surrounding counties.
