LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Lamar County and State Dept. of Environmental Quality officials are continuing to monitor the North Lake Serene dam after a leak under a spillway was discovered during a routine inspection Wednesday. It was stopped briefly after sandbags were placed around it Wednesday night.

But, a short time later, another leak was noticed nearby while the lake level was being lowered in an attempt to find the cause.

Offcials say they are keeping an eye on the seepage and say while it's still a cause for concern, they've found no signs of a breach in the dam.

They are continuing to lower the lake level to determine if the leak is coming from the dam or the concrete spillway.  They can't say for sure how long that process will take.
