According to Mississippi Highway Patrol, there is a 50 percent chance that a driver will be ejected from a vehicle if he or she is not wearing a seat belt.
Troop J of the Mississippi Highway Patrol relayed this message to students Wednesday morning at Petal High School.
The senior students participated in a roll over simulation that showed a dummy thrown from the drivers seat in a simulated roll over. When the dummy was buckled, it stayed in place.
One student said the simulation was eye opening, and solidified his parents heckling about buckling up before putting the car into gear.
Troop J Officer Brent Barfield says he has worked too many wrecks in the past, and some very recently, where seat belts were a factor of fatality. Barfield said stressing this to students will hopefully prevent future accidents and protect their futures.
