A 14-year-old Jones County female was airlifted to Forrest General Hospital by Baptist Life Flight air ambulance service early Sunday morning after being seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident.
Shortly after midnight Sunday, reports were received of a one-vehicle rollover accident on Forest Road #201 in the Desoto National Forrest, just off George Boutwell Road, in the Glade community.
Upon arrival first responders discovered the 14-year old had been ejected from the vehicle and was pinned underneath the driver's side of a GMC pickup truck that was on its roof at the bottom of a steep embankment. After stabilizing the vehicle by utilizing the winch from the Glade heavy rescue truck, airbags were used to lift the truck off of the young girl. Rescue workers then carried her up the steep embankment to the nearby EMServ ambulance which took her to Highway 15 South to wait for the Baptist Life Flight helicopter.
A 17-year old male was also injured in the accident and was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center by EMServ ambulance service with what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
