JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The seven-year-old boy that fell more than 30-feet from the Sky Ride at the Mississippi State Fair is listed in serious condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center. He fell from the ride Friday night around 11 p.m.

The Sky Ride was closed immediately after the incident and was reinspected by Sky Ride officials Saturday morning. the inspection showed that the safety lap bar on the car was working properly. The Sky Ride was reopened Saturday.

A press release from the Mississippi State Fair said safety is paramount at the Mississippi State Fair and nothing is more important than the safety of the thousands of families who visit the fair.

Josiah Zetterholm, who works at the fair, saw the incident.

"I saw him drop," said Zetterholm. "I saw a couple of people rush over so I came over and looked and I saw him laying in the ground with broken bones," said Zetterholm.

Witnesses at the scene Friday night say when the little boy dropped from the Sky Ride, it was pretty obvious he was in pretty bad shape.

"Someone said bones were sticking out? They were they were, compound fracture from what I could see," Zetterholm added.

Glen Bergethon, who didn't want to go on camera, contracts the Sky Ride out to the state fair. He said the boy's mom was in the car behind her son when the accident happened. He also believes the child was taller than the required 46 inches to sit in the Sky Ride alone.

A mom, Joannah Magee, says Friday's accident doesn't come as a surprise.

"Like I said, there's no seatbelts," Magee said. "They need seat belts or something especially if you're going to have kids that young on them," Magee added.

There are no plans to make any changes, like seatbelts to the Sky Ride.

This is the first accident that has been reported on the ride at the fair.

The press release adds, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the child and the family."
