HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Southern Miss College of Business has honored two of its most successful graduates with prestigious awards. Retired businessman William Tatum, Jr. and Polk's Meat Products CEO Julie Polk Breazeale were both honored during an awards ceremony at the Thad Cochran Center.

Tatum received the Boardman Distinguished Alumus of the Year award, while Breazeale was presented the Outstanding Young Alumnus of the Year award.

"Well, I'm shocked to even be considered for it," said Tatum. "We've got so many fantastic people that this award I'm sure will go to some day and I never thought I'd be a candidate for it," he said.

"When they told me I was the one receiving this award, it caught me by surprise, because I just didn't feel like that I was the one that would have been chosen this year, but it's just been a great honor," said Breazeale.

Tatum is a 1959 graduate of Southern Miss. Breazeale has both her undergraduate and masters degrees from USM.
