HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Forrest County Emergency Management personnel are keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Karen as it makes its way north towards the Gulf Coast. Landfall is expected Saturday afternoon.

They are telling folks in the Pine Belt to expect some moderate winds and one-to-two inches of rain in the area if the storm stays on its current path.

And regardless of how strong it is when it hits, they're reminding residents to prepare for its impact.

"Make sure you have all the supplies you need in case something were to happen," said Kyle Hopkins, operations officer for the Forrest County Emergency Management District. "When we say supplies, we mean non-perishable items, canned foods, that kind of stuff. Make sure you have drinkable water. There's a difference between potable water and non-potable water. We also want to make sure you have batteries and flashlights and a NOAA weather radio would be handy," he said.

And Hopkins urges folks to remain at home and stay off the roads if they can during the storm.
