Southern Pines needs temporary foster homes for transport dogs

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is looking for temporary foster homes for puppies and dogs scheduled to be going out in the Pet Smart Charities Rescue Waggin program.

The Rescue Waggin comes to the shelter two to three times a month to transport the animals to other parts of the country where they will have a better chance of being adopted. In a typical month 40 to 50 dogs and puppies are sent out.

The shelter is looking for people who are willing to foster the dogs for two-weeks prior to the Rescue Waggin arriving. Food, water, crates, and veterinarian care is provided by the shelter.

"We do need people that can get the animals to and from the shelter and the clinic," said Dr. Alicia Hatch, SPAS Veterinarian. "Usually you'll need to be available on Saturday to come in for a health check before their transport."

Dr. Hatch says fosters will need to have access to a vehicle to get the animals to appointments, usually one or two health checks.

The next transport is scheduled for October, 15 so they are in need of foster homes right now.

For information call the shelter at 601-544-6632.
