Two votes under the same name, only one registered

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

On Thursday we told you the story about Marvin Medina Allen and going to the polls only to find out someone else had already voted under his name.

“They gave me an affidavit to vote with,” said Marvin Medina Allen

The person who had already voted in his place is also named Marvin Allen.

“We both name is Marvin M. Allen,” said Marvin Montray Allen. “I was voting in Boys and Girls Club and they changed that so I called my name in and they told me I could register to vote, I could vote over here by The Y."

While they both have the exact same name and middle initial, and were born in the same year, there is one difference.

According to the city's master voter roll and the Forrest County Circuit Clerks Office, only one Marvin Medina Allen was registered to vote, the one we interviewed on Thursday. Marvin Montray Allen, his registration was purged in 2006 for being inactive from 2001 to 2006 and he was no longer registered or eligible to vote. In the end, both votes were counted.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said if Marvin Montray Allen wants to vote in the future, he must submit a voter registration application.
