(RNN) - One major aspect of the Affordable Care Act is that it makes preventive care for those insured under Marketplace private insurance plans, free - which means no co-payment, coinsurance or deductible.

However, if you are insured by a private carrier that was grandfathered into Obamacare, the rates will most likely still apply and could possibly increase.

Preventive care is comprised of a vast number of services, and under Obamacare it is broken into three categories: services for adults, services for women and services for children. Each service, no matter which category it's in, is a screening, vaccine or some type of counseling service.

  • Adult services include preventive services such as blood pressure screenings, immunization vaccines, diet counseling and depression screening.
  • Services for women include breast cancer mammography screenings, cervical cancer screenings and contraceptive methods (exempting certain religious employers).
  • Services for children include autism screenings, behavioral assessments and immunization vaccines for children from birth to age 18.

The ACA also makes certain preventive services available for those on Medicare.

For the full list of preventive services offered, visit HealthCare.gov, click on All Topics and then Prevention.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, preventable chronic diseases are responsible for seven of 10 deaths among Americans each year and account for 75 percent of the nation's health spending.

They go on to say cost sharing services such as co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles reduce the likelihood that preventive services will be utilized.

"Especially concerning for women are studies showing that even moderate co-pays for preventive services such as mammograms or Pap smears result in fewer women obtaining this care," HHS said.

The Obama administration is hoping to encourage more Americans to participate in preventive services by making them more accessible and affordable through the ACA.

Though she stands at just 4-foot-10, Aimee Durn is a force for the Jones County Junior College women's soccer club. The short freshman from England is a big reason the Lady Bobcats are 5-0-1. "They say big things come in small packages and that's very true for Aimee," said tenth-year JCJC women's soccer coach Dolores Deasley.
