WDAM Viewpoint- Voters deserve an untarnished election

It has been over 48 hours since the polls closed in the special mayoral election in Hattiesburg on Tuesday and no one has been declared a winner.  However, it is my opinion that there is a loser in this race, and unfortunately it's the voter.

Last week, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, made a special trip to Hattiesburg, so he could clearly state that he did not want to see a circus surrounding this special election.

What we do know is that the process appears to be broken and the voters in Hattiesburg deserve an untarnished election.

Even with new election commissioners, state and federal oversight, and training from the Secretary of State's office, we are left with unanswered questions, unmarked ballots, a questionably sealed ballot box and some absentee ballots that may never be counted.

We have heard from many of you through phone calls, emails and social media. We hear your frustration. WDAM will continue to ask the tough questions and bring you the very latest information.

This is today's viewpoint.
