PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Newly-released security video shows what happened in the moments before a 24-year-old Phoenix woman was hit and injured by an SUV in her apartment complex parking lot.

It happened on Sept. 20 just before 6 a.m. as "Julie" was finishing her morning run - and she said she fears it wasn't an accident.

The security cameras in her apartment complex show Julie walking past a gated entry, followed by a maroon SUV, believed to be a newer-model Hyundai Santa Fe with gray or beige bumpers and fenders.

"I'm walking in through the gate that I just opened up, and a car just started following me, nice and slow," Julie recalled.

She said she was walking across the Riverwalk Apartments parking lot, near Van Buren and 56th streets, when she heard an engine accelerate and felt an impact.

The video taken from security cameras shows Julie disappear around the corner. It also shows the SUV speed up around the corner.

Beyond the view of cameras, the SUV slammed into Julie.

"I rolled up on his car; rolled down to the ground and got up and then he stopped his car," Julie said. "He grabbed me and tried to put me in his car, through the driver's side, and was like 'I will take you to the hospital.'"

Julie said she fought her way out of the driver's grip.

She ran for help, and he sped off.

"It's pretty terrifying," she said about the ordeal.

Julie, who worries the driver might have been trying to kidnap her, spent five days in the hospital with a head injury.

"Part of me will start to feel bad," she said about playing the incident over in her mind. "Like, maybe this is just a misunderstanding. Maybe he just got scared and didn't know what to do and that's why he awkwardly grabbed me. Then I remember, but he left. At the end of the day - he sped off and he left."

Phoenix police have released a composite sketch of the man believed to have been driving that vehicle.

The suspect is described as a clean-cut white man in his mid-20s to mid-30s. He's between 5'11 and 6'1" tall and weighs between 165 and 185-pounds.

The man had buzzed, light-brown or dark-blond hair with brown eyes. He was wearing a white shirt and dark shorts – possibly brown or gray - and brown loafers.

"He doesn't fit the profile," Julie said about the driver's appearance. "He looks like your everyday Tom. I'm hoping that he gets caught. I'm hoping he doesn't do this to anyone else."

Phoenix police said they are investigating whether this is a hit-and-run case or part of an attempted kidnapping.

If you recognize the suspect or his vehicle, call Phoenix police.
