Oak Grove's Kirk McCarty finished 22-of-38 passing for 399 yards with 5 touchdown passes to go along with a rushing touchdown in his team's 45-30 win against rival Hattiesburg.
That stellar performance earned him this week's Academy Player of the Week award.
Head coach Nevill Barr had high praise for his quarterback.
"He's a good, smart player. He's a competitor."
McCarty likes the offense run by former NFL star QB, Brett Favre.
"I like to throw it. Brett doesn't like run plays. I don't run plays so we agree in that. It works."
But McCarty feels that his teammates deserve a lot of credit for his success, especially wide receiver Jordan Mitchell, who finished with 10 catches for 265 yards and 4 touchdowns.
"Jordan played really well. It was really kind of easy for me. I just kind of gave it to him on a little hitch, screen. He did the rest."
Mitchell welcomes the compliments, but recognizes the time his quarterback put in.
"He works hard at what he does. I think we have the perfect quarterback. I think we have one of the best ones in the state."
Oak Grove plays Forest Hill Friday night in Jackson.
