HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

State treasurer Lynn Fitch was in Hattiesburg Tuesday, visiting Southern Miss and stressing the importance of teaching financial literacy in Mississippi high schools.

Fitch met with students and faculty at the Dubard School for Language Disorders.

She says she has a lot of support for her intitiative that would mandate the teaching of one semester of personal finance in all Mississippi high schools.  She hopes a bill on the initiative will be submitted in the next legislative session.

"We truly believe that that's the financial, cultural dynamics change that will be so beneficial to our children as they move forward into colleges, universities, two-year schools and then certainly, on into the work force," Fitch said.

Fitch also spoke to the Hattiesburg Rotary Club Tuesday.
