Hattiesburg voters head to the polls for special mayoral election

Posted: Updated:
HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) -

Today, the polls are open in Hattiesburg for a special mayoral election. Residents will decide once and for all who will run their city.

Incumbent Johnny Dupree and Dave Ware both made allegations about voting irregularities and the issue ended up in court, which is why the special election is being held.

The US Justice Department is in Hattiesburg monitoring the election.

A poll worker at Grace Christian Elementary precinct said turnout has been double what it was in last city elections.

Reporter Danielle Thomas is in Hattiesburg. She'll have full details on the election later on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
