300+ jobs coming to Tunica County

(WMC-TV) - A manufacturing operation in Tunica County will bring 300 new jobs‎ to a county where almost 13 percent of its residents are without jobs. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant made the announcement Tuesday.

The German company, Feuer Powertrain GmbH & Co., makes crankshafts for the automotive industry. The plant opening in Tunica County will be the company's first in the United States.

"I understand we need jobs in the Delta, manufacturing jobs," said Governor Phil Bryant, wearing a hardhat as he broke ground on the facility. "You just do not stand idly by and hope that companies will come out to Tunica and to Mississippi, we go out around the world."

Feuer Powertrain GmbH & Co. supplies to big names like General Motors, Ford, and Ferrari.

CEO Bernd Gulden said Tunica County got the nod for the $140 million investment because of the people who live there.

"And I thought that it was key that we are welcomed here in the family of Tunica and we felt that from day one and the first hour," said Bernd Gulden, CEO of Feuer Powertrain GmbH & Co.

Tuesday's announcement comes one day after Governor Bryant broke ground on a new tire plant in West Point. He believes Mississippi's workforce will be key to companies in the car industry looking to take on new challenges.

"What we're trying to do is develop a southern automobile corridor that passes through Mississippi," he said.

Construction on the brand new facility should begin late next year with production starting in early 2015.
