Absentee voting ends for Hattiesburg special election

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The deadline to vote, for those who are going to be out-of-town during the September 24 special election for mayor, ended Saturday at noon.

Dozens of residents rushed last minute and stopped by City Hall and lined up to cast their votes. Although it was the last day to vote absentee in person, there's still time for those who are mailing their votes in.

“If we mailed out a ballot and you have to mail it back in, we can accept it through five o'clock Monday,” said Chief Financial Officer Connie Everett. “It has to be received by us in City Hall by five o'clock on Monday.”

According to Everett, a total of 115 absentee votes were cast Saturday, totaling up to 925 absentee votes since September 3.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
