Down Syndrome couple crowned Homecoming King and Queen

WESTLAKE, OH (WOIO) -

Homecoming at Westlake High School had a heart-warming storyline that folks around here won't soon forget.

Holly Thomas and Jacob Cox are just one of the happy couples, but their story is unique.

They've been an item since fifth grade and both have Down Syndrome.

"The homecoming king and queen are Holly Thomas and Jacob Cox," screamed the announcer.

The Westlake student body selected Jacob and Holly homecoming king and queen.

"It's extremely emotional. I feel like I'm just kind of rambling. I'm just shaking. It's a huge thing.  It's a joyful day," said Tracey Cox, Jacob's mom.

"It made me so happy that it made them feel like any typical student and to see them smile should make any other kid smile," said student Jamie Sandor.

Jacob's mother was overjoyed. She said Jacob and Holly's classmates showed true love.

"And they all saw how caring he was and he's just one of them. They don't look at him as special needs.  He's just part of the family there and that is a dream come true for me," added Tracey.

Holly and Jacob plan to travel to Disney World together after graduation.
