STARKVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

A fatal accident involving two Lucedale teens early Tuesday morning left one young man dead and the other charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to WTVA News in Tupelo, Kaleb Dwayne Barker, 18, was a passenger in the bed of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado two door truck. The driver was a fellow Mississippi State University student, Sawyer Tomas Steede, 18. The truck was the only vehicle involved in the accident that happen near the MSU campus.

Barker was taken to Oktibbeha County Hospital, then airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson, but died as a result of his injuries.

Steede is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and is currently out on a $50,000 bond, according to multiple sources. He's scheduled to appear in Starkville Municipal Court on October 21.

Barker was a freshman kinesiology major at MSU.

"The Mississippi State University family is heartbroken today over this very tragic accident," MSU President Mark E. Keenum said in a statement. "Kaleb was a young man with a great deal of promise. We feel a deep sense of grief and our thoughts and prayers will remain with Kaleb's family and his many friends in Lucedale and here at MSU."

Another MSU student was also riding in the bed of the truck with Barker, but she received only minor injuries.
