Laurel's water, sewer, and garbage rates are going up

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Laurel residents can expect increases in rates as early as next month.

On Tuesday, Laurel city council voted six to one in favor of increasing the city's water, sewer, and garbage.

The rates are expected to go up by 3 percent, which will be about a $1.30 on the average monthly bill.

Mayor Johnny Magee said the increase is necessary because each department has to be self-sufficient.
