WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - There was an explosion in the Pine Belt early this morning, unconfirmed sources tell us.
An oil tank operated by Mossbacher caught fire, and exploded North East of the Waynesboro city limits off Hwy 84 on Buford Gandy road around 9 a.m. Helicopters and fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
According to the director of Wayne County emergency management Angela Atchison, the explosion injured five on-site workers from Rapad Drilling and Well Service, Inc out of Laurel . There were no fatalities, and no rescue workers were injured.
The severity of the injuries are unknown, and names have not yet been released.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
