LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

You have a great chance this weekend to get a new, healthy four-legged friend, and all it will cost you is a little time. The Hub City Humane Society is hoping you'll drop by their shelter on Jackson Road Saturday and take your pick from among three dozen dogs that are up for adoption in a first-ever, "No Pay Dog Day" event.

Several generous sponsors have paid all the adoption fees for the dogs, which means all you have to do is fill out a brief adoption contract in order to take one home.

"They're fully vetted, they've had everything," said Virginia Cheatham, shelter manager. "They're fully vaccinated, heartworm tested, spayed or neutered and microchipped," she said.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
