ETX authorities recover the body of drowning victim

HENDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Rusk County Game Warden's Office has confirmed that the body of a man who drowned on Lake Palestine has been recovered.

Captain Mike Hanson said that a witness said a 30-year-old man went swimming in the lake, near the Sunrise Shores area of Chandler.

Hanson said witnesses watched the man swim about 150 yards out into the water when they noticed he began struggling to stay up. They jumped into the water to help save the man, but were unable to reach him in time.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office spent Tuesday evening combing the bottom of the lake where witnesses said the man went down, and were able to recover his body around 11:30 p.m.

Hanson said the victim has been identified, but his name will be held pending notification of next of kin.
