USM's McCain Library hosts Civil War Exhibit

The McCain Library at Southern Miss is hosting a "Pieces of the Civil War" exhibit through the month of September.

The displays in the 3rd floor reading room showcase era letters and journals, chronicling the lives of the average soldier. Military artifacts including cannon balls and bullets line the cases, as literature of the day adorns the shelves. The month long event also hosts speakers on various topics of Civil War life.

Curator Jennifer Brannock says, "We're doing a series of five talks from various professors and people in the community about the Civil War. These are going to cover everything from the life of an average soldier to food in the Civil War, or fiddle playing by soldiers as well as an African American writer and activist of the time." Brannock says the exhibit will run through the month of September and the speaker series is scheduled for each Monday night at 6pm during. For more information please call (601) 266-4347.
