HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of people gathered at Southern Miss Saturday for an annual fun and competitive event to build team spirit for the United Way's upcoming annual campaign. The 23rd annual Corporate Challenge at Southern Miss gave nine different teams of competitors a chance to test their skills in events such as volleyball, a basketball shoot-out, a sprint relay and the tug-of-war.
The challenge is held each year just before the United Way hosts its annual campaign kick-off which, this year, will be held on Sept. 5 at Southern Oaks and Gardens.
"We'll announce our campaign goal at that luncheon, but we're also going to talk about something new this year...our combination Make a Difference Day/Giving Back Day near the end of October," said Dan Kibodeaux, executive director of the United Way of Southeast Mississippi. "We're going to have a special tornado-recovery-themed Giving Back Day/Make a Difference Day, so come here what that's all about. We're excited to announce that. We've never done this before," Kibodeaux said.
Last year's fund-raising goal of $1.4 million was reached.
