HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

One of the candidates for mayor in Hattiesburg's upcoming special election in September was the guest of honor at the first rally of his new campaign. Dave Ware joined supporters from all over Hattiesburg at Walthall Park Saturday afternoon for food, live music and an opportunity to discuss the campaign issues.

Ware said he's ready to get out and greet the thousands of voters in the area, particularly those that will be on local college campuses.

"For the first time in my memory at least, the students at William Carey (University), Southern Miss and Pearl River (Community College) will be on campus the day of the election, and I think those students are looking at this and saying, we want to be involved, we want to be engaged and we're going to make sure our vote counts," Ware said.

The date for that special election is Sept. 24.
