Owners of a pioneering Pine Belt pharmacy which specializes in customizing medications see a bright future for their business. The folks at Vital Care Compounder, which was the state's first compounding-only pharmacy, say they expect a great deal of growth in their industry.

Tuesday, they officially opened their new, larger location on South 40th Ave., which is just a few steps from their old one.

"I think we're in the infancy at this stage," said owner Robert Donnell. "And we will be able to deliver a lot of medications in the future (such as) patients with cancer, in the future we may be able to help those people prevent some of the nausea that they have," he said.

Donnell says when he first opened 14 years ago, there were less than two dozen compounding-only pharmacies in the U.S.

Today, there are nearly 1,000.
