LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Sumrall man is in critical condition, and a Covington County man is behind bars, following an early Saturday morning shooting in the Sanford Community.
Covington County deputies responded to a report of a burglary at around 1 a.m. at a residence on Highway 49. As the investigation unfolded it became apparent to the deputies that it was not a burglary.
Authorities say a group of friends were partying when Jonathan Arrington, 21, allegedly pulled a gun and shot Britian Davis one time in the chest. Sheriff Stan Smith says Arrington and the rest of the group waited 20 minutes before calling 911 while they devised a plan saying Davis was attempting to break into the home when he was shot by Arrington.
Arrington is charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. He made his initial appearance in court Monday where is bond was set at $1.2 million.
Davis remains in Forrest General Hospital in critical condition. Family members say there is a strong possibility Davis may never walk again.
Family members of the victim packed the court room for the bond hearing.
