LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of senior citizens traveled to the Pine Belt Thursday for a day of fun.
The group from the New Orleans Ninth Ward Senior Center rode the Amtrack to Laurel to have a day of fellowship with the seniors of the Murph Senior Center.
Activities included a tour of historic Laurel and a visit to the Lauren Rogers Museum.
"We're just honored that they're here, that they selected Laurel to come to," says Murph Center Director Lula Cooley.
The group coordinated after a woman from the New Orleans center visited Laurel with her church. After a long time planning, the groups finally met.
"This is the group's first trip out of town," says New Orleans director Claude Steward. "We're looking forward to the tour and to taste some of your Mississippi cuisine."
