(RNN) - Boston mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger was found guilty of 31 out of 32 charges, including involvement in 11 murders.

Bulger, 83, was also found guilty of extortion, money laundering and weapons possession. His sentencing is set for Nov. 13.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Justice Department plans to scale back mandatory minimum sentences for minor, nonviolent drug dealers not affiliated with gangs or cartels. Holder said he would also look into sentencing disparities.

Scientists at the Smithsonian announced they have identified a new mammal species. The olinguito is a small member of the raccoon family that lives in the treetops in South America. It is slightly smaller than a house cat.
