Southern Miss Goes Through First Full Scrimmage Saturday Night

Southern Miss Athletics Press Release

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Kendrick Hardy scored on three short touchdown runs and added four catches to highlight the first full Southern Miss scrimmage of fall camp here Saturday night at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.

First-year coach Todd Monken saw some encouraging things from his squad during the evening session.

"We made a few plays and we looked at times offensively better than we did in the spring," said Monken. "I don't think we fumbled tonight, which is good, but we still had too many mistakes. The positive was that we didn't get anybody hurt, as far as I know, and our guys competed."

Hardy finished for 12 yards on eight carries, but had a touchdown score of one-yard to go with a pair of two-yard scoring runs. In addition, the senior added 62 receiving yards, including a reception long of 45 yards.

All six quarterbacks in camp received some reps during the scrimmage as junior Cole Weeks led the way with a 9-for-16 performance for 162 yards with an interception. Cal senior transfer Allan Bridgford tallied an 8-for-9 night for 77 yards, while sophomore Ricky Lloyd notched was 5-for-9 with a touchdown and an interception with 49 yards. Freshman Nick Mullens added a 7-for-8 showing for 61 yards.

Sophomore Tyre Bracken led all rushers with 47 yards on five carries with a rushing score of 40 yards, while junior Chris Briggs added four catches for 92 yards to lead the receivers.

Defensively, sophomore Ed Wilkins registered a pair of interceptions, while sophomore Michael Smith and junior Adam Williams each paced the defense with two sacks each.

Following the team's first day off during training camp on Sunday, the Golden Eagles return to practice Monday morning at the Joe P. Park Practice facility.
