Budget Inn homicide death by blunt force trauma

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - It has been confirmed by Lt. Traxler, HPD, that William Arthur Kane, 51, who was discovered in a room at the Budget Inn motel on Highway 49 in Hattiesburg, died of blunt force trauma to the head. Coroner Butch Benedict says an autopsy later confirmed his death was a homicide.

Wednesday evening Hattiesburg Police arrested Mark Joyce, 28, of Hattiesburg, William Farrell, 32 of Arab, Alabama, and Virie Parker, 25 of Hattiesburg.  All three have been charged with murder.

Farrell was a coworker of the victim.

HPD made arrests due to a joint effort made by sheriff's departments around the Pine Belt, Hattiesburg Police Department, and Crime Stoppers. U.S. Marshals also aided in the arrests.

Specifics of activity going on within the motel room where the murder happened has not been confirmed yet.

Late Wednesday night, HPD confirmed they picked up a fourth suspect, Marquise Dean, 24, of Hattiesburg.  Police say that Dean is being charged with murder as well.
