FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Two locations in Forrest County have been recognized as "Storm Ready" by the National Weather Service.
Forrest County School District and Forrest General Hospital both received this title based on their emergency preparedness plans.
"The plan worked as expected," says Forrest General COO Doug Jones of the hospital's actions during the Feb. 10 tornado. "We've had it in place, and we've had opportunities to test it."
The Storm Ready program recognizes locations with superior communication and safety skills before, during and after severe weather.
"You cannot put a price on safety," says Forrest County Superintendent Brian Freeman. "The bottom line is the safety of the children."
Forrest County School District is the first district in the state to be named Storm Ready. Forrest General is the second hospital in Mississippi to receive this title.
