KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

Heavy rains sweeping through parts of northern Arizona forced the closure of a stretch of Interstate 40 Saturday evening and prompted a flash flood warning.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said an 18-mile stretch of the roadway was closed west of Flagstaff because the roadway was flooded.

The agency said that interstate was shut down about 6:30 p.m., and had been fully reopened less than three hours later.

Some streets in Kingman reported getting anywhere between 8 to 12 inches of water over the roadways.

CBS 5 News receiving some reports of cars stuck in the water, particularly near Bank Street and Sierra Vista Avenue.

A southwesterly air flow will usher in a drying trend Sunday into at least the middle of the week.

By Sunday evening, thunderstorm chances will be confined to the higher terrain east of Phoenix and this will continue through Wednesday, CBS 5 meteorologists said.

There is a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Phoenix area Sunday night.

Some monsoon moisture may spread west into the central deserts later in the week leading to a slight  chance for thunderstorms into the greater Phoenix area.

Near seasonal normal high temperatures can be expected through Monday, with a warming trend expected Tuesday into the latter portion of the work week.
