Mississippi’s tax free weekend just a few days away

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

School is just around the corner and that only means one thing, tax free weekend.

This will be Mississippi’s fifth year to participate in a sales tax holiday. The tax free weekend is scheduled for July 26 - 27. It applies only to clothing and shoes under $100, and is intended to help out parents with their annual back-to-school shopping efforts.

Many local stores have been preparing for one of their busiest weekends of the year, and suggest that customers start shopping early.

“Early is best, that way you get the first pick of the best items,” said Shoe Dept. Encore Store Manager, Nakkia Hendricks.

“Get here early,” said Turtle Creek Mall General Manager, Ted Martin. “The mall will be busy.”

Keep in mind, some areas choose to opt-out of Mississippi’s tax free weekend, so check with your city hall to ensure that the tax holiday is indeed taking place in your city.
