Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp kicks off

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The annual Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp kicked off this week. Campers, counselors and staff gathered for another fun week of camp activities and making new friends.

"We have so much fun," says staff member Molly Hanberry. "These kids teach us so much, and they have so much to give."

The camp is split into two sessions. The first week is for campers ages two to twenty-one, and the second week is for campers ages twenty-one and older. Some campers and counselors are new each year, while others return to serve and enjoy the fun.

"It's the smiles," says counselor Luke Little of why he comes back to camp each year. "It's just a good time for the campers and the counselors."

Civitan Camp was founded in 1961 by the late Abbie Rogers. All of the staff are volunteer adults and high school students, who serve by Rogers' belief that "through friendships, we learn that we are all more alike than different."
