New animal rescue looks to make a difference in Jones County

A new animal rescue organization in Jones County says they will work to make the better treatment of animals a top priority.

The Southern Cross Animal Rescue was founded by Heather Chandler Williams, Shannon Bates, and Kristin Viscione. Their goals include reducing the number of strays walking the streets, improving the way some animals are treated, and improving conditions at area shelters and holding facilities.

The group is currently looking for a place to open a shelter facility and say they would prefer the Ellisville area.

"We are looking for a building and cheap land to put it on," said Williams, SCAR Board President. "We would love to be located out of Ellisville. There's just tremendous need there. There's new businesses coming and the college is constantly expanding. With that comes more animals and that's why we see the greatest need in Ellisville. However, we will be serving the entire Jones County area."

Anyone wishing to help SCAR with their many needs can go to the Southern Cross Animal Rescue Facebook page or call 601-433-5807.
