Hattiesburg man sues city, HPD for abuse

A Hattiesburg man claims police broke his spine after an alleged domestic disturbance call on July 23, 2012. Jordan Chase Borgognoni filed the lawsuit seeking unspecified damages.

In the lawsuit, the police report says Borgognoni cursed at the officers. It alleges the officers arrested him on charges of domestic violence and simple assault, then threw him to the ground, kicked him, and jumped on his back.

Borgognoni says he filed suit against the city on April 16, but it has not been served to the city yet. He also says he was taken to the police station before an ambulance was called for medical assistance. Borgognoni says the police report to the hospital does not match up to what actually happened that night. He says he is now an incomplete quadriplegic since the night of the alleged incident.

Borgognoni's lawyer, Dennis Sweet, says he is not ready to release a statement or summarize the case on Borgognoni's behalf. Sweet says he will have a statement outlining specifics in about a week. Hattiesburg city Attorney, Charles Lawrence, says the city has not been served with a complaint yet.
