HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

It's not quite time to put up the sunscreen and swimsuits, but it is time to start thinking about the upcoming school year. That means it's also time to start shopping for school supplies.

Toyota of Hattiesburg is hosting a Back to School supply drive through August 3. The dealership is collecting school supplies for students in the Pine Belt whose families' need assistance in purchasing these important supplies.

"We started doing the school supply drive for a lot of families in the area that are going through a financial hardship right now," says Toyota employee Jessica Skeen. "We just figure it's a really good way to help with an already stretched, financial burden."

An estimated cost of school supplies for an area fifth grader is fifty dollars. If the student is required to wear a uniform, the supply and uniform cost would total around eighty dollars.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported there are now 12 cases of West Nile Virus in our state Thursday morning. Although, every case is serious, that number pales in comparison, to the 247 cases in 2012. Still, you have to put a human face onto these figures to really know what this virus is capable of doing.
