Pine Belt residents react to Zimmerman verdict

George Zimmerman was found not guilty late Saturday night in the death of Trayvon Martin.

The all-female jury made the decision after more than fifteen hours of deliberation. Zimmerman was cleared of all charges, which included second-degree murder and manslaughter.

Local Pine Belt residents who have been following this trial reacted to the verdict.

"I think as long as you focus on justice, the truth will bear itself out," said David Argueta. "If you focus on anything else but that, you'll fail."

For Sandra Forbes, this murder trial reminded her of her own son's death.

"My heart goes out to the lady because I had a son to get killed," said Forbes. "I feel that the man should have been served and given that lady some sort of closure."

Defense attorneys in the Zimmerman trial said the case was classic self-defense, claiming Martin knocked Zimmerman down and was slamming the older man's head against the concrete sidewalk when Zimmerman fired his gun. Prosecutors say Zimmerman assumed Martin was up to no good and took the law into his own hands.
