Marion General Hospital to reopen ICU

Posted: Updated:

Marion General Hospital in Columbia is in the process of renovating and reopening its intensive care unit.

The intensive care unit was closed in 2010. At the time, Marion General was on the brink of closing. However, after being taken over by Forrest General, Bryan Maxie took over its operations. Marion General has performed well with renovated patient rooms, low wait times, and is now reopening the ICU. The unit will allow the hospital to hire several new positions.

Hospital Administrator, Bryan Maxie says, "We know there is a lot of people out there looking for positions and a place to work. We will be able to add some additional nurses to our staff. We'll add some respiratory therapists, and some patient care techs. This is what we are looking with this move. So, we're excited to add some additional employees here and give some people the opportunity to come to Columbia and work."

Maxie says most of the construction is cosmetic and the new 6 bed intensive care unit should be completed by October 1st.
