United Blood Services in Laurel about to run out of O-negative blood

Posted: Updated:
LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel United Blood Services says they have less than a one day supply of O-negative blood on the shelves.

On Tuesday, residents packed into the Cameron Center in Laurel with hopes of helping United Blood Services meet its critical need for blood.

Only 6 percent of the population has O negative blood, said Blood Services Director, Kristi Womack.

"A critical appeal is when we are very seriously in need of this blood type, so we really need people to take some time, donate blood, and particularly if you are O negative," she added.

To donate blood visit the United Blood Services office in Hattiesburg between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
