Country singer Randy Travis, 54, has been admitted to a Dallas hospital in critical condition.

According to his public relations firm, Travis was admitted Sunday for treatment of viral cardiomyopathy, a heart condition caused by a viral infection. The Mayo Clinic says the condition weakens and enlarges the heart muscle.

Travis is best known for the country hits Three Wooden Crosses, Forever and Ever, Amen, and Deeper Than the Holler. His latest work is a duet with Joe Nichols called "I'm Playin' Possum," a tribute to the late George Jones.

Travis was also arrested in Texas last year for public intoxication after having an argument with his girlfriend.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
