JEFFERSON, TX (KSLA) -

An East Texas woman is in critical condition after her car was struck by an 18 wheeler Monday morning in Cass County.

Texas DPS Tpr. Shane Lawrence 44-year-old Jennifer Bowman was heading westbound around 10 a.m. on FM 2683 approaching the intersection with U.S. 59 when she failed to stop in time at the stop sign.

An 18 wheeler and another passenger car were heading northbound on U.S. 59 toward the same intersection. The passenger car managed to swerve to the left to avoid Bowman's car, but Tpr. Lawrence says the driver of the 18 wheeler was unable to swerve far enough to the left to avoid hitting the car.

Bowman's car was spun several times, and she was thrown from the vehicle.

The Hawkins, TX woman was airlifted from the scene and taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, where she is listed in critical condition.
