WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Officials in Wayne County say clean-up of an oil spill on the Chickasawhay River near the Wayne-Clarke County line is nearly complete.  They also say with good weather, it could be wrapped up as early as Sunday.

An estimated 213 barrels, or about 9,000 gallons of oil spilled nine days ago from a tank battery operated by Logan Oil Company. It leaked into a tributary, which fed into the Chickasawhay River about one mile away.

A section of the river between Highway 184 west of Waynesboro to Highway 145 at Shubuta remains closed to all boaters and swimmers and officials continue to urge residents not to eat fish caught in the affected area.

An investigation into the cause of the spill continues.
