PAHRUMP, NV (FOX5) -

On the Pahrump side of Mount Charleston lies the small community of Trout Canyon. The 21 homes in the area are the closest to the approximately 10,000-acre Carpenter 1 fire.

While residents there can't get to their homes and know it could be weeks before things are back to normal, they are safe and their houses aren't in immediate danger.

Teresa Stelmaszczyk is a 15 year resident of Trout Canyon. She said she feels helpless in the wake of the evacuation.

"The words, I don't have. I'm tired. I wish I knew more," she said.

There's currently no estimate on when the fire will be contained and no timetable for when residents will be allowed back in their homes.

Stelmaszczyk is holed in her camper with a broken generator, desperate for resolution.

"I've been on my knees praying, and it's God that's brought us through right here now," she said.

Officials with the U.S. Forest Service, Metro police and Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue personnel held an open meeting on Friday night to give residents updates and answer questions.

"As it stands right now, the community of Trout Canyon – everything is looking really good. No structures are lost, no injuries," a member of the Forest Service said.

The Pahrump Chamber of Commerce is working with hotels and RV parks to provide residents with temporary housing.

"They have offered to let the people being evacuated stay there for free until they get this under control," said Michael Selback with the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce.

For information about temporary housing or other concerns, contact the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce at 775-513-2038.
