Tommy King presents $20,000 scholarship at Sumrall parade
The Lions Club in the town of Sumrall has hosted a Fourth of July parade every year since 1976. This year's festivities highlighted Dr. Tommy King's deeply rooted heritage in Sumrall.
Aside from Dr. King being the president of William Carey University, he is the grandson of Dan Sumrall, a Union soldier who founded the town in 1874. King presented a generous gift during today's festivities.
One lucky upcoming college freshman will receive a $20,000 scholarship, thanks to Dr. King. The scholarship was presented at today's parade at Lion's Park in Sumrall. A scholarship recipient has not been chosen yet. The scholarship is scheduled to be auctioned off around Christmastime.
