Columbia author in final stages of having novel adapted into a film

Posted: Updated:

Columbia author Brandi Perry, who has enjoyed success with her three novels, is in the final stages of having her second novel, A Whisper on the Bayou, adapted into a feature film.

A long journey, but Perry says she's finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Brandi Perry has enjoyed acclaim with her three novels and has traveled all over the region giving readings and signing books.

She said, "That's what I do full time. My fourth book will be out in September so, I've been really blessed." However, it was a potentially tragic set of circumstances that maneuvered her writing career.

"I got into writing accidentally and I say that loosely, but in 2009 I had emergency brain surgery and moved back to Columbia; I wasn't living in Columbia at the time, and I moved back to Columbia and did my rehab here and wrote my first book which was Wayward Justice."

Perry has completed two novels since then and is now poised for a new adventure.

"A Whisper on the Bayou, was my second novel, and it had been in publication for about a year and a half when I found out that it was going to be adapted into a movie."

Perry along with Columbia native turned Austin, Texas, production company owner Brandon Marshall have worked over the past year to adapt the novel into a screen play.

Both are in the process of fundraising for the film set to be shot in Columbia and Marion County. "We have an ideal budget in mind and once we reach that we move forward and it will move very quickly at that point."

Perry says the production would bring both actors and crews from through the region to Columbia. "They're going to have to stay somewhere, they're going to have to eat somewhere. So it may give that shot of economy boost that Columbia desperately needs." Although a long process Perry says she excited about seeing, A Whisper on the Bayou, put to the silver screen.
