AT&T U-Verse coming to Hattiesburg

A new world of digital television, Internet, and telephone service was announced at Tuesday's city council meeting.

The city cable advisory board has been reactivated after a contract was negotiated with AT&T to bring the company's U-Verse fiber optic network to Hattiesburg. The contract was approved by both city council and AT&T, and the work begins now.

C. D. Smith, regional director of AT&T, appeared at the city council meeting to present a new choice for citizens to receive their interactive home entertainment. Smith says other cities who have the U-Verse option enjoy the new product.

They call it "U-Verse," because your television, Internet, home phone, and cell work together so you can customize what you want to see.

"Our customers are really excited about it; they really love it, it's two-way interactive," Smith said.

"For the ones who are connoisseurs of techy stuff, this is really great. This will give customers in Hattiesburg another option on accessing the video options they enjoy."

Hattiesburg citizens receive their digital media via satellite or cable; however, in the near future, citizens will be able to receive their media through AT&T U-Verse. This technological bundle can be customized to fit the consumer's needs when it's installed in the AT&T infrastructure that already exists in Hattiesburg.
